RAYMOND HORSES WINTERED WELL. Montreal -Owned String Should Figure Prominently on Canadian Tracks. Montreal. Que.. April 9. — One of the promising strings of thoroughbreds owned in the province of Quebec, and one that will hold its own against the breeders of Ontario during the coming season, is that owned by 1. Raymond, the well known local breeder and owner. The Raymond horses are now st iblod at the farm on the Liese road, in quarters that are up-to-date and well fitted for the wintering of race horses. The string this year is a small but select one. the majority of the horses in it being eligible for races for Canadian breds. while the others are eligible for the races for Canadinn-ownod horses, of which many are given on the Canadian Racing Associations tracks during the year. There are two in the older division. Malamont and Reddest. The former is one of the two of the get of the famous Flying Fox. now in America, anil will be the only one of that strain to be trained in America during next summer. The other son of Flying Fox is owned by the Dyments at Barrie, and is standing in the stud. Malamont has been bred to several mares this year, while three of his get will lie seen under colors, they being the property of the owner of M:,la mont. Malamont was brought to Canada as a yearling, and sold to his present owner, who developed him and did not start him until his three-year-old year. He only started one", that lieing at Con-naught Park, at Ottawa. He won that race in a sensational manner and was made the medium of a coup. In a work out after that race he went wrong and has never lieen raced since. He will be put in training this spring, and if he stands it. will be raced. Reddest Developed Into a Jumper. Reddest is a Canadian-bred and started in the Kings Plate here on two occasions. He was turned over to William Garth last autumn to develop as a jumper, and word comes from Maryland, where he has been wintered, that he gives great promise of making a success of steeplochasing this summer. He always showed an ability to carry weight and had a good turn of speed on the flat. The three-year- Ids. of which there are three, were all raced last autumn, and showed goo. per-form.inccs. of the three. Recorder, a Canadian bred, looks the best. He showed several good trials before going into winter quarters. Bright Sand is another .rood one. she having shown some fast trials. The other is Athena, by Athel, the sire of Lady of Merci. The three two-year-olds are all Canadian breds. Betas by Malamont. The best of the band is foaled by the mare Snl Volatile. The filly showed up well last autumn in her work, and lias developed into a smart -looking youngster. She is well turned, and not too leggy. Mondaine is a half-sister to Recorder, and a promising two-year-old. The ether is foaled by the mar, Giddy Girl. The horses have all wintered will, and have been given regular work on tile roads around the farm. An effort will be made to train them at Rlue Bonnets this soring, should the weather permit. They will be shipped to the course of the Montreal Jockey Club as ssea as the track is in condition to gallop over. The string will be trained by James Bodes again this summer.
