MUDDY TRACK AT LEXINGTON. Lexington, Ky.. April 9. — Easter Sunday was a dreary day at the Kentucky Associations racing ground. There wasnt a ray of sunshine the whole day through, whereas the trainers had expected bright weather and a good track. Superintendent Ross, however, opened the mile course, as muddy as it was. and let the horses on for the work-outs now so necessary, if they are to be ready for running when the spring meeting opens twenty days hence. Some idea of the state of the going may be had from the gallops of the four Kentucky Derby candidates, who were out for work. Skeptic went three-quarters in 1:28%, seven -eighths in 1:43 and galloped out a mile iu 2:01. Waterford. probably the best mud runner of his age in America, worked three-quarters in 1:27. Monotony, never a work horse, went three-quarters in 1:29. Westy Hogan. looking fit as a fiddle, cantered five-eighths in 1:10, hard held. This is going to be one of the most useful three -year -olds of 1917, barring accidents.
