ATWELL QUALIFIES FOR THE DERBY. Works a Good Mile in Race Horse Style — Other Lexington Gallops. Lexington. Ky., April 25. — The most impressive f a large number of gallops at the Kentucky Association course today was that of Howard Dots iaiglish colt, Atwell. by St. Ainaut— Doro. He is a candidate for the Kentucky Derby with a far better than an outside chance for the prize. With jockey Lykes in tiie saddle. Atwell ran an evenly rated mile in 1H1%. Six weeks ago this handsome ■olt was sent to Louisville to R. I. Williams, who trained him at llbuglas Park until he was shipped back here to rejoin the Oots string yesterd.-.y. .Villianis some time ago said at Louisville that he thought the colt has a fine chance to win the Derby and he certainly had no reason after the work today to change his opinion. Owner Oots makes uo secret of his expectation that the Englishman will give a g H«l account of himself on May 12 at Churchill Downs. He will be seen in action at least once during the meeting which is to open here Saturday. Twelve horses Ik longing to Baker Brothers arrived this morning from Loui-ville and with them were G rarer Baker and jockey Roscoe Coose. John E. Madden today sold to Stanley Davis for the Poland Stable, tlie two-year-old filly Pl.ineta. Westy Hogan Displays Great Speed.
