HORSEMEN IN SESSION AT MONTREAL. Pair. Resolution Not to Race at Canadian Ilalf-Mile Tracks for Less Than 00 Purees. Montreal. Owe., April 25. — That owners of racing horses will be askal not to give their support to or race over any tracks in Canada where anything but the pari miituel system of Iwtting is used, and not to race over half mile tracks in Canada where the miiiini.im purse is less than H . was the result of the initial meeting of the committee, a branch of the Thoroughbred Horse Association, hold at the Windsor Hotel. The resolution regarding the minimum purse of S4DS and the usage of the pari-mntuel system of betting was passed in the best interests of the sport in Canada. In the opinion of the members of the committee, this is a step in the direction of stamping out tlie syndicate ring in Ontario, as it has bet n done in the province of Quebec through the heavy ami extra tax placed by the government on books and bookmakers. The committee, on the complaint of a number of owners, who have riders under contract, will as.; the various jockey clubs where meetings are held in the early spring ami the late autumn to provide heat in tlie jockey rooms, as. in the opinion of many, it is dangerous for boys to strip in cold rooms. A copy of this request will be forwarded to the various Canadian race track owners. To Help Government Stamp Out Syndicate. The members of the committee, in passing the resolution regarding the installation of pari -uuituels at all tracks, expressed the opinion that it was lending the assistance to the government in stamp-hat, out the syndicate, which has been detrimental to thoroughbred racing for many years. This matter, as well as the minimum pane of #400 on half-mile race tracks, will be brought before the horsemen at the first meeting to be hi Id ill Canada. Many of the owners discussed the purse problem during the winter racing at the various Brack* and fed that there should be an increase this summer, which in their opinion, will bring about a better class of racing in Canada during the coining season. Those present at the meeting were: Norman Macfarlane. chairman; D. A. OMeara. Montreal: Harry Oiddings. Jr.. Oakville; Robert V. Davies. Toronto: Captain W. J. Press. Ottawa. The following is the resolution passed regarding the purses and installation of the pari-mutuels: "That the committee ask the horsemen not to give their support to or to race over any track in Canada not using the pari-mutuel system of betting and not to race over any half-mile tracks for a minimum purse of less than .00. This being done with a view to bringing about a better class of rating in Canada." It was also decided to ask horsemen not to make entries at any track in Canada where added money is not given this season. Those resolutions were passed unanimously, after which several new members were enrolled.
