INCREASED STAKES AT FORT ERIE. Niagara Racing Association Will Give No Purse Less Than 00 in Value. Buffalo. N. Y.. May 1. — In keeping with its usual high standard, the Niagara Racing Association, owner of th- Fort Frio race track, announces that its stakes have is-c-n materially increased and that, besides this, it has been decided to give- no purse of less than S700 and no overnight handicap of a value under 8888. It was not long ago that horsemen racing at Fort Erie were glad to get 50 purses, anil the contrast is only line evidence of how conditions at this track hav ■ improved. The Niagara Racing Association has spent close to S200.000 in improvements since it purchased the plant, and the quality of the sport furnished is in keeping with the other advancements. In fact. Fiirt Frio gives th- best meeting in Canada outside of Toronto, the mother of the circuit. The staki-s that have been increased are as follows : Canadian Derby. ,000. Fourth of July Stakes. ,500. Niagara Stakes, ,000. Fort Erie Selling Stakes. ,500. Dominion Handicap. ,000. Iroquois Hotel Stakes, ,000. Edward W. Maginn Memorial Handicap. ,000. Thes sums are all added, the entrance money, in all cases, going to the winner. The best horses in America will be seen at the meeting at Fort Erie July 4 to July 11. and August 4 to August 11. Owners of tin. big stabk-s in New York and those racing at Havre de Grace are entering the various stakes.
