DERBY WINNER WHICH COST ONLY 5. There have been many occasions when bloodstock deals, thought little enough of at the time, have turned out unexpected bargains, but surely the most remarkable is that in which the Belgian sportsman M. A. de Neuter was concerned. At Newmarket In 1915, he purchased for five pounds a yearling colt by Bridge of Earn Monaleen, which last week won the valuable Aranjuez Derby for the King of Spain. Named Souvenir dExil, he ran last year on several occasions in that country under the royal colors without success, though placed in two races. This must be the first time a horse sold for a "fiver" has won a Derby anywhere. We learn that the royal stable is in great form in Spain, it having won no few than twelve races since the opening of the season a- month ago, including the Queens Cup at Aranjuez.. The meeting has been a great social and sporting success. London Sportsman.
