OPENING DAY AT KING EDWARD PARK. Montreal, Que., July 7. The summer meeting of the King Edward Park Jockey Club opened this afternoon with one of the best offerings that has ever been made on a half mile course in Canada. There were three races over a longer distance than a mile and this is an innovation to local half mile racing. These races filled as well as the usual sprint races so frequently run on half mile courses and the idea has met with the general approval of the horsemen stabled at the island course. The King Edwnrd Park plant never looked better than for the present meeting. A big crowd was in attendance for the opening days sport. Close and Interesting finishes featured the racing. The Bowie svstem of wagering was used and gave general satisfaction. The totalizer was placed on the lawn in front of the grandstand, so that it could be seen by the public in the stand and this also helped to eliminate the congestion in the betting enclosure. The probable odds were posted every five minutes during the iutcrvals between the races. 1 1 ! 1 " i I ! i i
