BATTLE ABBEY gained steadily under pressure and took the lead on the last turn, but tired in tho final eighth. ONWA finished gamely when ealled on, but could not get to tho leaders. RIGHT was almost left at the post. BOND set the early paee and quit. The winner, entered for ,000, was bid up to ,S05 and bought in. AILEEN O. was cut off early and was saved behind the leaders until straightened out in the homestretch, then moved up rapidly and outstayed PAGANINI in the final drive. The latter began fast and raced into a big early lead, but came wide on the stretcli turn and tired in the closing strides. BILLET DOUX began slowly, but closed a gap and was going fastest of the leaders nt the finish. COM-SORA was forced to race wide. JUNE BUG and PINEHURST quit. BATTLE was shuffled back on the first turn, but gradually improved her position, came through on the inside when entering the homestretch and, holding on gamely under punishment, outstayed ACHILLES in the final drive. ACHILLES raced close up for the entire way and was forced out on the stretcli turn but came again and was gaining in the closing strides. PIRAEUS took the lead an the last turn, but tired in the final eighth. HARWOOD II. tired badly after going three-quarters in the lead. Scratched 33733 Fleuro, 115.
