SURPRISES AT KENILWORTH. VICTORY OF BETWEEN US OVER BLIND BAGGAGE BIGGEST UPSET OF AFTERNOON. Backers of the Winner Handsomely Rewarded Jockey Lowder Prominent in. Days Results Great Crowd and Speculation Heavy. Windsor, Ont., July 25. Surprises were in order at Kenilworth this afternoon and those fortunate enough to hold winning tickets were handsomely rewarded. Jockey Lowder was prominent in the afternoons results. He had the mount on Celtiva, winner of the first race, which paid 9 to ; Isabelle H., which paid 2.10 and Between Us, which paid 09 in the machines. Between Us scored his victory in the afternoons feature, a handicap at three-quarters, to which a purse of ,200 was added. There were some fast horses in this nice, among them Blind Baggage, Fruit Cake, Etruscan and Tea Caddy. Between Us was off none too well, but worked his way through the bunch and, saving ground when entering the homestretch, finished with a good burst of speed and was drawing clear at the end. Blind Baggage carried the steadying impost of 132 pounds and showed a good performance under the weight. Mnnokln, which was .making his first appearance in months, pulled up lame in the race. Uncle Bryn was another first-time starter this season and he was never prominent in the running. The attendance this afternoon was again large and speculation keen. The Kenilworth course is certain to become one of the popular tracks on the circuit with the horsemen, for the reason of its splendid soil and with the public for the large roomy betting enclosure. Old Rosobud Shipped to Saratoga. Jockey Charles Peak left with the Applegatc stable for Saratoga this afternoon. Old Rosebud came out of his race yesterday in grand condition and will be quite troublesome when he meets some of the eastern cracks at the Spa. S. Doyle put in a claim for Thanksgiving after he was beaten yesterday, but deposited an insufficient amount of money in his envelope, which necessitated his claim being thrown out. J. B. Goodman took Eulogy after she won. Goodman is already gathering a stable for a winters campaign at the Oriental Park course in Cuba. J. C. Milam is among the owners racing here who wjll race, at Saratoga. lie ships his string on Friday. James Arthur has about given up the idea of racing at Saratoga Springs. J. Lumsden is one of the big Canadian owners who has decided to race there and it is possible that the famous black and gold sash of Joseph E. Seagram will be seen at the springs this summer, for the first time in many years. The division of the G. Wingfield stable, that Early Wright is racing here, will be sent to Cheyenne, Wyoming, on Saturday. Jockey T. Parrington will probably give first call on his services for the Futurity, to S. A. McNaughton. Jockey Molesworth has received an offer to go to Saratoga to ride for Miller Henderson.
