Racing will be ushered in again next Saturday, August 18. at Chevenno. after an absence of seven years. No thoroughbred racing of any proportions has taken place at beautiful Frontier Park during that period. The wonderful portrayal of frontier days, which lasts a week, takes place anually when the cowboys of the West. Northwest and Southwest meet here to show their skill and daring- feats, closed a few weeks ago; Now comes the thoroughbreds for 10 days of racing and it should be- the most attractive from the standpoint of the sport that the Cheyenne public will have- the pleasure of witnessing, as there has never "been as, many good horses awaiting the bugle call in this section before. Manager W. W. Finn and secretary John O. Talbott have been here for ver three weeks arranging the details incident to the opening of the meeting. They have been busily engaged superintending the -various improvements they are making here. They have already-erected two hundred new stalls, which makes a total accommodation for 400 horses and rearranging the betting ring for the 12 niutuel machines that will be in operation. The grandstand at Frontier Park js a double deck structure built of steel with a seating capacity of 2.000 and is one of the most pretentions of its kind in the west. Horsemen are arriving in goodly numbers and the city is fast- filling up with followers of the sport. Cheyenne itself boasts of a population of 10,000 people" not including the 7;000 regular soldiers that are stationed at Fort Russell, about one ipjar-ter of a mile from the race track and on the same electric car line. Denver is only 00 miles away and it is expected that a large attendance will motor daily from that point and the meeting should be a most successful one. Wyoming Derby Most Attractive Feature. The "Wyoming Derby is -the- most attractive feature of the meeting for three-year-olds at one mile and one-eighth, having a value of ,i!00. Among those likely- to start in this feature are Square Set, Hondo;- Minnow, Gladiola, Thirst, Frosty Morning, Wand, Crankie and Commoners. These are the principal eligibles and they should furnish a stirring contest. There is some good material1 quartered at the track. George Wihgfields stable of twelve is here in charge of trainer Early Wright. Among them are Bank, Slippery Elm, Scarlet Oaks, Square Set and seven others, mostly two-vyear-,6lds. G. W. They caioft! from Montreal. Both report that many more horsemen in Canada were anxious to ship, but it was Jin possible to get cars. M. M.- Shields, the well-known horseman, met with a serious accident while en route here from Montreal. He received a severe kick in the pit of his stomach from one of his horses in the car and had to be removed, and sent to the hospital at Boone, Iowa, at which place he is still confined. The English importations of George Wingfield, the Nevada turfman, which have recently arrived from England, passed through here Saturday en route to Reno in charge of. Mr. Gulliams. There were six in the band, the stallion Athellng, four broodmares and a foal. , All were in splendid condition.
