ENTRIES IN COMING ENGLISH STAKES. Many Crack Fillies in the Substitute for the Don-caster St. leger of Next Month. Lord DAbernons good filly Diadem has been entered for the St. Leger substitute, the September Stakes, which is to be run on Seiitember 12, and for Which a subscription list of thirty is notified. This number represents a decrease of thirteen as compared with the total associated with the former entry, which closed in April; but otherwise there is not much room for complaint, as good class is thoroughly well represented, and the thirty nominations are in excess of those for the New Derby and Oaks combined. In the former list there were, besides Diadem, six other fillies, viz., Icefern, Rosmarin, Molly Desmond, Elisalexi, Catherine Swynford and Queen dOr, and while all but Elisalexi and Catherine Swynford of these liavg now disappeared, the de-iectiohs flre fully equalized by the substitution of Sunny Jane, Nonpareil, Grizzel Grim and Hampshire Lily in the place of the remainder. There is thus every prospect that in the final classic of the racing season the gentler sex will be as strongly represented as it usually is during what is generally regarded as the mares month. Turning to the colts engaged in the September Stakes we find practically a repetition of the Derby list, though the names of Athdara and Argosy are missing. There are, however, newcomers in the form of Helford, Summoner, Roehetto, Bridge of Marne. Brigand, Dresden, Cairngillan, Kilbay, and IIo-Tei and if none of these suggests serious danger so long as all goes well with the cracks, it is never safe to prophesy on these lines. Other highly interesting entries published are those for the Middle Park Plate and the principal Rices at the forthcoming Manchester meeting. For the big juvenile contest there are fifty-eight nominations, and, as amongst these are Wilton, the Eryholme filly nov named Earna, Sommc Kiss, Hillhamp-ton, Sonning, Pandion, Syndrian, Benevente, Beaufort, Shenley Boy, Sky-rocket, and Scatwell, it is obvious that high class could not well have been better represented. It will a distinct novelty to have a Manchester Cup again, but although eighteen entries is not a wonderful number, a race in which sucli as Parrot, Moliacz, St. Eloi, Frustration. Seal-by, Aboukir, IIo-Tei, Bosget, Mount William. Brown Prince, The Viking, Salamaudra, and Mountain Park are eligible to compete can hardly fail to be an interesting one. Most of the other races at Manchester have filled well, so far as class is concerned, but the shortage of entries observable here is one which, I am afraid, will be experienced for some considerable .time to come.
