Won handily; second and third driving. METEORITE lifter being saved to the last turn, was forced extremely wide in the homestretch, but responded gamely when called on for a final effort and was going away at the -end. KING HEROD raced in close pursuit of the leader and took the lead in the last eighth, but tired in the closing strides, ICARUS rushed Into, the lead on the backstrcteh and saved ground on the turns,- but tired in the-homestretch. QUEEN QF THE WATER was a forward contender all the way. BALLY slipped through next to the rail wjien entering the homestretch and finished gamely. WARSAW and VALOR ran creditable races. HARVEST KING closed a gap when clear in the last quarter. LEICESTER raced forwardlyih the early running, but ran "wide on the stretch turn and was eased up in the last eighth. CAPRA was in close quarters on the backstrcteh and. shuffled back, then secured a clear course on the stretch turn, but cOuld never get to the leaders and tired under her weight. SAM McMEEKIN, running kindly today, raced in near pursuit of the leader to the stretch, then took the lead at his riders leisure in the last eighth and won witii speed in reserve. SILVER SANDALS moved up rapidly next to the inner rail while rounding the last turn and was pocketed until at the eighth post, where she secured a clear course and finished gamely, but the leader held her safe. THE GRADER raced well up throughout and, holding on gamely, outstayed MEDITATION in the closing strides. The latter had no" misiiaps and tired in the final drive after closing a gap. NEPPERIIAN, after being a forward contender from the start, came around the leader in the homestretch and, in a game finish, outstayed JUSQU AU BOUT in the final drive. The latter-took the lead and, drawing away while rounding the last tunij held on gamely when challenged. SINN FEIN displayed excellent speed and, setting a fast early pace, outstayed AURUM at the end. AURUM saved ground on the stretch turn and was gaining slowly on the leaders in the closing strides. DRILL MASTER quit after making an effort at the eighth post. DEBADOU was away poorly.
