OPENING DAY AT ST. LOUIS. TEN DAY MEETING AT MAXWELTON PARK BEGINS THIS AFTERNOON. Big Crowd Expected to Witness Revival of Racing in the Mound City Excellent Program Arranged for the Inaugural Day. St. Louis. Mo., August 28. St. Louis -will witness u revival of racing at Maxwelton Park tomorrow, tile first since 1905, under the auspices of the Missouri Breeders Association. The meeting will he inaugurated with six good-class races, including the Mound City Handicap, a sprint at three-quarters, which has attracted some of the hest sprinters in the west. The meeting, which will he run for a period of ten days, has attracted some of the hest horses in western training and stahle room is at a premium. Late arrivals will find it difficult to obtain stahle room. Joseph A. Murphy, former secretary of the old Fair Grounds Association, anil who has officiated in the stand at nearly every track in the United i-tates and Canada, is the prime mover in tin; big meeting, which opens Wednesday. Judge Murphy has always believed that the American public will patronize good horse racing, minus open gambling and other evils that were permitted to kill the sport in St. Louis twelve years ujro. The Missouri Jtreeders Convention and ltace Association will not countenance betting bookmakers, and pool sellers Mill not be permitted to operate at the track. The meeting, while it is short, will be one of the best ever staged in this city. Of the three hundred horses now quartered at the track, practically every one is ready to race. Large numbers of horse lovers from East St. Louis and other east side cities are expected to attend tomorrows opening. A delegation from Saratoga and New York arrived yesterday and was followed by two carloads, including the rucers of J. H. Goodman, and H. Perkins., In the band were such well-known racers as Itob Hensley, Kinney arid Gipsey George. Also from Michigan came 1. 15. Freeman and I!. 15. Rice. The latter brought four, including his recent purchase".- Louise Stone. Plenty of Tiding material will-be on hand. Jockeys "N". Crump and F. Murphy arrived from Saratoga, while E. Tnplhl, C. .Van Dusen, H. Stearns, J. Dreyer, It. McDchnott, G. Warren, M. Anderson. It. Bolton. A.. Pickens and F. Cooper are all here ready for the opening. It. Miller, Morris Ilyams and B. Krause were arrivals from New York.
