The prize moiley and "trophy foi this race are contributed by Clarence H. Mackay. in honor of whose beautiful country .estate at Roslyn, L. I., the race is named. .Mr. Mackay, after much consideration, has come to the conclusion that it is really desirable to have such a .race as this exclusively for threeryear-old jumpers, because it encourages desirable owners to purchase young steeplechase material and thereby plays a part in keep-ing up a fresh supply of steeplechasers for succeeding years. Mr. Mackay feels that it is a constructive part that the race plays and therefore he decided against changing the conditions and making it a race to which older. horses might be .eligible. The list of entries, which follows, gives u line upon some of the budding timber toppers that are being prepared for their debut through the steeplechase field.
