LADIES DAY POPULAR AT CHEYENNE Dervish Wins the Chief Race of Yesterday at a Long Price Track Gossip. Cheyenne, Wyo., August 2S. The light winds and bright sun dried the track out rapidly and the going was fairly good today. Ladies days are growing to great popularity in Cheyenne, judging by the way they came out this afternoon. The big stand was well filled with the fair sex. Only six races were on the program and all of I them received good support. The fourth race in particular came in for the biggest speculation of the afternoon. Dervish won at the liberal odds i of 0.95 to .01, leading his opponents throughout, but had to be ridden out at. the finish. Jockey Matthews was in the limelight by winning .three mounts out of five. Irby and Backsen have purchased Lanterns, a two-year-old, from trainer Early Wright, who represents Jeorge Wingfield. Tiie terms were private. Al Farrell, who trains for E. Cebrian of San Jose, Cal., stopped over today on his way to the coast from Saratoga. He is going to the ranch to pick ill twelve horses to put in training for the coming winter meeting at Tijuana. John Tholt, the well-known Texas bookmaker, is a visitor and will remain until the close of the meeting. Jockey George Corey left tonight for St. Louis, i where he will ride at the meeting. i i , : ; i !
