WHELAN TALKS ON CANADIAN RACING Edward Whelan, a Montreal turfman, visiting at Belmont Park, says that if turfmen in Canada only behave themselves and obey the law, racing will bo all right again in Canada shortly. Some track owners and promoters, he says, are taking Just the right way to make legislation against racing in the Dominion permanent. lie says there are too many tracks in both Ontario and Quebec, and that this fact is generally recognized. New tracks generally where there already were thoroughly good and well conducted tracks, and especially the wretched half-mile tracks, were extremely unnopular. Mr. Whelan intends to remain until after the close of the Aqueduct meeting. He is on the lookout for mares and geldings with which to make up a moderate sized stable to race in Havana this winter. Already he has bought the seven-year-old mare Euterpe.
