HOPEFUL STAKE ENTRIES Gives Some Idea of Our Two-Year-olds of Next Year. Yearlings of Choicest Foreign and American Breeding Named for Saratogas Richest Race. New York, December !. Borne idea of what may Ik expected in the two-year-old division next year may be had from the nominations to the two-year-old stake races offered by the Saratoga Racing Association. Of these stakes the Hopeful is the most valuable and naturally the youngsters named for this rich turf prize are those most highly thought of by their owners and trainers. The Hopeful, which lias a guaranteed value of 0,000. ,000 more than last year, when it was worth 50,500 net to the winner, closed for entries on November 27. Among the nominations are many foreign-bred youngsters brought to tilts country during the past year, while the best American families are represented in the home-bred entries. A., K. MACOMBER NAMES FIFTEEN. A. K. Macoinber, the leading money-winning owner of 1017. who has cut such an important figure on the American turf, though comparatively a recent addition to the sport, has made fifteen nominations to the Hopeful and in his band are found several youngster representatives of the best English blood. The sires represented in those he has named for the rich Saratoga event are Prince Palatine, Spanish Prince, Uncle, Star Shoot, Jim Gaffney, Sunder, Vulcain and Sunstar, sire of Star Hawk. Harry Payne Whitney is represented by fifteen and, in addition to his own stallions, he is represented by St. Aictrix, Tracery, Polymelus and Bayardo. Four of his are by Peter Pan, three by Broomstiek, three by Hamburg and one by Whisk Broom II. James Butler is represented by four of his own breeding. They are all by Out of Reach, the sire of George Smith and are a bay colt, dam Napping; another bay colt, dam Climber and a third of the some color from Pierrette, while the fourth is a bay daughter of Mind the Paint. Joseph E. Widener has named seven, and four of them are foreigners. There are two by The Manager and cne each by Prestige and Spearmint. The other three are the get of Sain, Ballot and Ren JJrush. Riehard T. Wilson will be represented by three colts, the progeny of his own stallion Olambala, the sire of Campfire, winner of the Futurity of 11110. Major Edward R. Cassatt has three of his own breeding in Avion, a bay eolt by Aeronaut Princess Chic, and, accordingly a liirif-brotlier to Trial by Jury; Cavalier, a brown son of Cavalcadour Miss Perigord, and Cinders, a well-named chestnut son of Aeronaut Trash, accordingly a brother to Garb-ago, winner of both the United States and the Grand Union Hotel Stakes. GilTord A. Cochran will show the first of the progeny of His Majesty in a brown colt, dam Pretty Maiden and another, dam the Irish mare Connemara. Others of Ids nominations are a brown colt by Ogden -Golden Drop, a brown filly by Sweep Henpeck and a bay colt by Swynford Quair. Frederick Johnson has four nominations and three of them are by his own young stallion. Cock o the Walk, while the fourth is a son of Llangwm, that has." been named Over the Top. The Cock o the Walk colts are all named after the illustrious sire, being Cock o the Main, Cock o the Run and Cock o the Gun. PERCHANCE ANOTHER SUN BRIAR. Willis Sharpe Kilmer, the owner of Sun Briar, the winner of this years running of the Hopeful, has named ten for the same race next year. Three of them are the progeny of Ogden; one by Assagai, one by Ballot, one by Sea King and one by Light Brigade, two by Sardanapale and one by Star Shoot or Hessian. George W. Loft, owner of the good two-year-old Papp, is represented by two by Sweep and one each by Contestor and Peep oDay. John E. Madden has only named eight. Six of them are by Ormondale, one is a Star Shoot and the other a son of Dick Finnell. John Sauford has for his nominations sons of Uncle, Whisk Broom II. and Tracery, not one of his own stallions being represented. Morton L. Schwartz has five named to bear his silUR- There are two by Star Shoot and one each by Peter Quince, the sire of Papp, King William and Plaudit. The Brighton Stable has four named and one will go down to fame as Earlocker. named after the secretary of the Westchester and Saratoga associa-I lions. He is u sou of Fair Play Lady Aristocracy. The others are by Ballot, Plaudit and Celt. Robert L. Gerry has named two that should race well. One is to be known as Delaware, a bay son of Ormondale Livonia, and accordingly a half-brother to The Finn. The other has been christened luly Rosebud, and she is a half-sister to Old Rnxebud, being a daughter of Ormondale Ivory ItfllH.
