EXCELLENT SPORT AT ORIENTAL PARK Fast Run and Closely Contested Races Feature Days Racing at Havana. Havana, Cuba, December C. The best field that has gone to the post at Oriental Park since the meeting opened Thanksgiving Day, contested the running of the fifth race today and furnished n stirring struggle. Only five started and at the finish Olga Star. Old Miss and Ormulu were so closely bunched the .result was in doubt until the official placing was announced. It was a fast run race, the half being run in 47, the three-quarters in 1:12, the mile in 1:39 and the mile and fifty yards n 1:12, a new track record for the distance. Another stirring and bitterly fought contest came with the running of the third race, in which J. C. Ferriss speedy filly Violet defeated Blue Racer after a game closing drive. Luzzi was a warm favorite in this race, but at no time dangerous. K. Spences Norvic repeated his victory of the opening day. when he scored over a fair band of platers in the fourth race. A big field of two-year-olds faced the starter in the opening dash. Marauder proving an easy winner, disposing of his opponents in decisive fashion after moving into the lead in the homestretch. The second nice resulted in an easy victory for W. Gnrgans mare Regular, quoted at 10 to 1 in the betting. Frank Patterson appeared best, but after opening a big early lead, tired badly in the stretch and, Regular finishing fast, won going away. A. L. Rogers has purchased the contract on jockey Gruber, who rode two of todays winners. Hanobala, castoff of R. T. Wilsons stable, which was brought here by J. W. Pangle, died today.
