JOHNSON BEST APPRENTICE RIDER There is no doubt but that jockey Albert Johnson is the best apprentice seen in the saddle in recent years and he stands out over the rest of the jockeys at New Orleans, young and old, with the possible exception of Frank Itobiuson. There are many who contend that lie is even a better rider than Robinson. Some one taught Johnson early in his career the shortest way around the race track and he surely makes good use of his knowledge in this respect. When he gets in close quarters, he does not lose his head, but hides his time and does not try to ride over horses and thus kill his chances for victory further. He also seems to know when and how to use his whip" to the best advantage without needlessly abusing a horse.
