LATEST METROPOLITAN TURF GOSSIP New York, December 25. The ship which brought over the horses of Messrs Hitchcock and Sanford anil others numbering about forty head, is still un-docked. Room may be made for it tomorrow or Thursday. The horses are not suffering from the delay, according to Dr. MeCully. W. L. Powers of the Powers-Hunter Sales Company, in commenting upon the recent Newmarket sales, which were the best since 1913, said the result showed a firmness of the breeding industry in England. "Probably the fact that England is to have eighty or more days racing next year had some heaving on the sale," said Mr. Powers. "In any event it is a sign of confidence in the thoroughbred, not only as a snort provider, but for its exceeding usefulness. The strong and upward Irend of the market in England, the one astonishing fact is that the English sales were not increased bv American bidders. We usually have some commissions to fulfill, but this year we had none. This fact gives the sale even greater solidity and peaks distinctly for tlie future, both here and abroad." It is probable the colors of Thomas Monahan will bo seen next year, carried by sons and daughters of his stallion Textile. Juke -a number of horsemen from this section will be at the Corrigan dispersal, sale at Lexington, all ready to bid on young horses of promise.
