A 4. FAIRY WAND AND BALLAST AEE CHIEF CONTRIBUTORS TO G. A. COCHRANS STABLE EARNINGS IN 1917 4, 4, - There was a substantial falling olf in earnings of the stable of G. A. Cochran in 1917, as compared with 1910. Seventeen thoroughbreds carried . the colors of the stable during the year and the dividends returned by them amounted to 0,107, as "against 9,155 the previous year. Fairy Wand, a three-year-old chestnut filly by Star Shoot Countess Wanda, was the" most successful money getter. She has three firsts, three seconds and four thirds to her credit for a total of ,107. Fairy Wands best performance, from a financial viewpoint, was in the Averne Handicap at Aqueduct, October 3, when she finished first in front of Ticket, Koh-i-Noor, Corn Tassel, Manister Toi. Crank and Wistful. She led all the way and ran the mile in 1:38. Fairy Wand finished second in the Pimlieo Autumn Handicap, third in the Alabama Stakes at Saratoga and got fourth money in the Bowie Handicap at Pimlieo. Amackassin was fifth in total earnings for the stable, but shared stake honors with Fairy Wand. The Sweep two-year-old won the Carnasie Selling Stakes at Delmont Iark and finished second in the Bouquet Selling Stakes over the same course. Ballast, next to Fairy Wand, paid the best dividends in the Cochran stable. He is credited with four firsts, six seconds and three thirds for a total of ,005.
