EXCELLENT CARD AT HAVANA Two Handicaps Provided for Sunday Program at Oriental Park. Montresor Wins One, Miss Fannie the Other Rain Gives Mud Runners Another Chance Havana, Cuba, December 30. Two handicaps were offered as attractions at Oriental Park this afternoon, one of three-quarters of a mile, which carried with it a purse of 500. Another, the Ano Viejo Handicap of a mile and a sixteenth, to which was added a purse of 00. J. W. Pangle furnished the winner of the three-quarters handicap in the old campaigner Montresor. Hunt got the old fellow away to a good start and, after being temporarily outrun by Reprobate, he came again with a terrific closing rush and outstayed Reprobate in a thrilling finish. The Ano Viejo Handicap resulted in another excellent contest, with Miss Fannie- the winner over Olga Star by a scant length,, the latter gaining with every stride. Hunt was forced to ride Miss Fannie out to the limit to retain the lead. Hunts riding in botli handicaps was a. distinctive feature of the afternoons sport. Maiden two-year-olds were engaged in the opening race, with G. B. Foleys Orestes most favored by the form followers. This richly ibred son. of the great Tracery lias been more or less of a disappointment in a racing Way and his efforts today were not calculated to make one enthuse over. He moved, up steadily after entering the homestretch, but after assuming the lead began to tire and barely lasted long enough to win. Piquette, xirnetically neglected in the betting accounted for the second race, having a comfortable lead, over . her opponents at the end. Dainty Mint set the early pace, but quit as if not quite keyed up to a race. GOOD CROWD DESPITE WEATHER. . The races were, run over "a Heavy track, due to the rains of last night. The weather .was threatening throughout the afternoon and. while the attendance failed to come -up to former Sundays standard, still the crowd was of good proportions and speculation was heavy and spirited Radiant Flower found the going to his liking in the third race and scored an easy victory. Ed Garrison might liivve"-woii the fourth, but for rearing up at the start and being almost left. He finished a good second to Enver Bey, which was particularly favored by the going. , Many tourists are beginning to arriyo. A number of new faces were" noticed among those present this afternoon. Harry Herdel will in the future train his own horses exclusively and W. -P. Gloss will succeed him as the trainer of the J. W. Pancle stable; Jockey Dodd, who had the mount on Encore yesterday, was fined 00 and suspended for thirty days for rough riding. A. B. Stelle purchased at private sale this morning of J. F. AVeber, the horses Rhyme ilnd Brlzz.
