DOWNS TRACK IN SPLENDID CONDITION Louisville, Ky.. April 1. — Col. Matt J. Winn, accompanied bv Col. Andrew Vennie. was at Churchill Downs yesterday morning for the first time since his return from the east. Mr. Winn -was well pleased with the splendid condition of the grounds and complimented track superintendent Tom Young on the splendid results of his labors. Colonel Winu found everything in first-class order and declared that everything was practically ready for the opening of the spring meeting. Conditions are so perfect that no improvements are necessary to the plant this spring. The infield, which was sown in rye last fall, already present* a picture of verdant beauty rivaling the finest blue grass, and thus insuring a most fitting background for the stirring events of Derby day. Trainer Thomas Murphy, of the A. K. Macomber slable. Ids decided to throw the filly Hoop Skirt out of training and send her to H.. P. Huadlevs farm to be bred to Dodge, which is now in the utiiU.
