April 9.— Colonel Winn, general manager of the New Louisville Jockey Club, is well satisfied with the dates for spring racing allotted Churchill Downs by the State Bacing Commission. The club asked for thirteen days, its usual quota. and got what it asked for. The meeting will open May 11. when the historic Kentucky Derby will be run. By opening on this date the club secures three Saturdays. Colonel Winn intends devoting all of his time now to preparing for the meeting and will probably remain in Louisville until the opening of the Downs season. Supt. Tom Young, of Churchill Downs, has received word from stater A. B. Dade that he would be here in a few days to supervise the school -! ing to the barrier of the two-year-olds at the Dowus. One of Mr. Dades assistants will immedi- ately start schooling pending the arrival of his chief. W. F. Martin arrived today from Hot Springs aud reiwrted that his horses had been shipped from Hot Springs to Pimlico. Mr. Martin formerly raced on the Kentucky tracks, but this year will try his luck on the eastern courses. Besides eight horses of hi* own. Mr. Martin has charge of nine belonging to Frederick Johnson, these having been turned over to him when Miller Henderson met with an accident last winter. ♦
