NO CHANGE IN THE STARTING TIME New York Tracks Will Live Up to Spirit of Daylight Saving Law — Training Notes. New York. Anril 9. — It is practically understood there will be no" change of time for the starting of races on the eastern tracks, but that the daylight saving time law will be followed. In speaking on the matter to Secretary Edwards of the Jamaica track, which opens the season on May 16. he said that the subject had been discussed, in course of conversation among the managers of the tracks, but none of them seemed inclined to make any change excepting possibly of a few minutes occasionally, which would make little or no difference in the time of getting away from the tracks, as it frequently occurs that the starting of the first race has been delayed with little or no convenience following. "I dont think there will be any change from the regular standard," concluded Mr. Edwards. All doubts have been set at rest regarding a starter for Pimlico. Mars Cassidy has been appointed to fill the position. The weather was showery at Belmont Park today and little work was accomplished. Walter Jennings was out early with his first set. but other trainers did not show up until rather late. Papp worked a mile at a two-minute gait with Arrah Go On. The latter showed signs of soreness last year, but is going smoothly of late and may develop into a good horse. Tom Welsh started to educate his two-year-olds to the straight course this morning, working them from the half-mile pole toward the stand. Horses unaccustomed to the straight and wide course at Belmont frequently run all over the track if not properly schooled. Stromholi was sent seven-eighths and is evidently lieing prepared for one of the early handicaps, possibly at Jamaica. Campfire and Corn Tassel, from Mr. Wilsons stable, worked well. Both these horses are getting into fine shape for fast work, aud will, no doubt, lie seen at Jamaica.
