The , Bro »k Mild Brooks were given the most considera-lion, although Captain Parr came in for sulistauti.il j lucking as the result of his excellent showing in j the Green Spring Valley Steeplechase. Kittle Horn, one of the despised outsiders, caused quite a little excitement l y showing the way to the twelfth jump. where he tired and fell hack. It was at this point . that Captain Parr, skillfully ridden by W. Allen. moved into the lead and then drew away at the pleasure of his rider. St. Charleote fenced cleaniy and ran well for his first outing of the year, finish- J ing in second place, with Dramaturge getting the short end of the money. The Stafford Handicap furnished an unset. Samuel | Uoss Crank being I tea ten in a close finish by Ham- . roseb. This proved to lie a plendid contest, with Hamroseh ami Crank dominating the running, But for swerving out in the homestretch. Damroscli would have had :: much easier time beating Crank. Agnes Cooks nice in the opening dash, for which she was favorite, was about the worst that this filly j has run. She seemingly lacked speed and was never : a contender. The winner was the Whitney-bred Tommywaae. which, after easily racing Sir Bean into defeat, took the lead and drew away at the cud. Frank Weirs well bred Golden Clow simply played » with his opposition in the second race, rushing into s a big lead "after rounding the far turn and was ■ only cantering as he crossed the winning line. Ral ;i Parrs Coral ran a good race, finishing fast after dropping back on the far turn. Had not jockey Lyke attempted to squeeze * through on the inside on the turn out of the back- * stretch. Irregular might have Itcateu Fencer in the !l •sixth race. Irregular was gaining with every stride and MeAtee had to resort to punishment to enable the McLean racer to last long enough to get the 1 decision. Another close finish marked the List race of the I afternoon. Came Im k beating the favorite, bolus, by a small margin, the strong hand riding of jockey « Walls contributing in no small measure to the success of the winner. I HORSEMEN EXPRESS THEIB THANKS. - A testimonial signed by almut 150 of the horse- I Mien, was presented to the Maryland Jockey Club, expressing their thanks for the liberality shown by the club in splitting the Preakness Stakes and add ing M.i.OtiO to each division. It was certainly a fine thing for the club to do and. incidentally, the Maryland Jockey Club has earned many friends for racing, not only among the horsemen, lint the public as well. It |,„wod that there was another side to the spon besides the commercial end of it. The one J di*«P1" iiitni -ul was the small attendance in the infield. I here was probable less than a thousand in that put of the enclosure. I.. C. Smith, who has lieen acting as one of the placing judges ;it Pimlico. and James Mclaughlin and K. II. II..111..1. who have been patrol judges, left for New York last night to assume similar jiosi-toiis :it Jamaica. Joseph McLennan took Smiths place in tj„. stand, while L. A.
