KENTUCKIANS N FORCE AT SARATOGA Western Owners Expected to Cut More Formidable Swath Than in Former Years By J L Dempsey DempseySaratoga Saratoga Springs N Y July 31 Kentucky and the west vill again be represented in extensive nu ¬ merical fashion and promise to cut a much more for ¬ midable swath than in former years If such is the ease it will be due to the fact that the improved track firm and springy is more representative of the Kentucky courses or socalled paste board tracks prcftileut in the west Formerly racers from the blue grass section raced with difficulty on their first essays over this track on account of their unfamiliarity with the loose and cuppy footing they had to run over overThe The Kentnckians particularly this year have ex ¬ cellent prospects of holding their own with the best for their stock compares well with the best in these parts It is doubtful if any threeyear old fillies will prove superior to Aiva America John AVard who trains the latter lias also a strong hand in Lucky B which he trains for Daggie Smith SmithB B J Brannons youngsters St Bernard and Colo ¬ nel Livingston are already attracting attention and as they are named in some races in which they will be opposed by the eastern topnotchers con ¬ siderable interest will be attached to their per ¬ formance So far the juvenile division has not produced anything outstanding and the eastern Owners regard the crop of youngsters shown to date as ordinary ordinaryThe The real champion of the year according to good judges is Pride of India a sou of Delhi Dominoes owned by II A Porter and trained by former starter Harry Morrissey Tho colt has not been under colors to date but his work has been of such a flattering nature that several of the more pretentious owners have sought to acquire him but their tempting offers have all been turned down by his owner The colt went slightly amiss yesterday morning which will deprive him of making his debut in the United States Hotel Stakes which will be decided next Saturday In yesterdays work when he met his mishap he took into camp in good style the crack Ultima Thule Trainer James Rowe was a witness to the performance and intimated that he would give 30000 for the colts transfer to the AVhitney establishment Trainer Morrissey also has in his stable Pastoral Swain a son of Colin that lie is reserving especially to win the Lexington Breeders Futurity with AH the horses that were brought here from Ken ¬ tucky appear to have shipped in excellent condi ¬ tion and barring some slight ailments are all in fine fettle The extensive band of Edward 1 McLean and those owned by Mrs Edward B Mc ¬ Lean in charge of trainer John F Schorr show up extremely well The Porter which will not be seen under colors during the early part of the meet ¬ ing has filled out considerably since his Latonia campaign campaignSPEEDY SPEEDY KATHLEEN HAS RECOVERED RECOVEREDKathleen Kathleen also has gotten over her ailment and is now going along smoothly in her training and sprinters here will find it a difficult task to take her measure The veteran Leochares is also ready for a hard race but like The Porter he will only be called on occasionally Uncle AVhite is not showing up as well as expected he would and has been verging on a fever during the past few days daysThe The death of Cliff Hammon will elevate AVilliam Hurley to the position of trainer of most of the K R Bradley liorses The main brigade however will l e under the personal supervision of Sir Bradley who will prepare them for their engage ¬ ments mentsThe The Bradley stable promises to continue th suc ¬ cesses enjoyed this season in Kentucky for all the racers are in superb condition Sir Bradley feels the loss of Cliff llammon keenly and has made provision to look after the dead mans sou and daughter Trainer Hurley who now has Bradleys second division at Empire City will bring these liorses here tomorrow to join the main force Jockey L Gentry who will do the principal riding for the stable has fully recovered from his fall at La ¬ tonia toniaTrainer Trainer George Strate who has charge of the eight liorses owned by J H Rosseter has taken over Passing Shower Jockey Johnson who will ride for the stable has been troubled of late with boils but expects to be in condition to ride during the opening days daysThere There will IK an abundance of jockeys here and the old riders Robinson Lyke Fairbrotlier Knapp Taplin Rice and others that have dominated eastern racing will have keen competition for honors from Sande Lunsford and several that have made shining marks in Kentucky this season
