THREE INDIANA COONS BAGGED The coon hunts hit me best as I am a coon hunter writes Albert Sheets of Hen d ricks County Indiana iu the HunterTrapporTrader The kind that on a gocnl nicht uiy dog lets out a loud bark and seems to fay Lets go my veins get as large as a lead pencil with that sport blood and there is something doing 1 just got through read ¬ ing Seaman Joiner of Illinois coon hunt and will say that I am with him and the hound and what it takes to tree a ringtail for I have hunted with most all kinds of socalled coon dogs Some would tree and some just didat know where Mr Coon was and some didnt care Some of theso dogs you buy are dogs that in the early part of tlie season when coon are out eating soft corn just jump over an old rail fence down on that young coon and bay him and then he Is sold as a No 1 coon dog and if the track had been ten minutes old he would not haye known where it went Now brother coon hunters dont you think that the old faithful hound would have bayed that coon and he would have trailed that track three hours old instead of ten minutes and have given you plenty of good music These dogs that I am going to tell you about I have seen them tree coon that other dogs quit and couldnt trail it any longer take the same track two hours after work it out md tree Mr Coon Now Mr Coon Hunters you ill know that all such coons are not iu a den tree for they have gone up and stayed until all was quiet and if Mr Coon is in his house just say good night to him and dont disturb his sleep then he will feel like a good run the next night and lots of funny stunts stuntsBefore Before I get to my hunt I will tell you I saw soim hunters in the wood that said they hunted for the sport They had an axe saw spade climb ¬ ers and about fifty feet of rope said if they treed they got the game For dogs it looked like a dog kennel with them Some curs and some just dog I could tell you lots of things that spoils the coon hunts One is some try to burn them out ind it cannot be done lets keep the dens I will relate my story now nowIt It was on the lifith of November and a good night for coon My partner E 15 Sliortridge i 0011 hunter that never says quit called me on the phone and said he had the fever and had it bad and about that time I had it too lie said he would over with old Jack that is what we call him lerau my dog is only two and onehalf years ol ind Jack is four I was soon ready and had Duke my hound tied p waiting for the car E B goi to my house at fi30 We were not long getting to the hunting ground and we stopped the car turned the dogs looe and started to tlie woods We went along to the rdge of a cornfield and by the time we got our pipes filled and lit the dogt hit iu the woods Duke let out some loud barks Jack to the top of his voice We siid coon smtS the chase was on They wont west onefourth mile to a little stream then northeast about one half mile and say boys they were giving us some fin music Then they went southeast about one half mile to another ravine then the tamed am ame west The coons were try make n homerun when the dogs cut them t a sugar FINE A CHANCE AS I EVER D DTin Tin o ns cam s within fifty yards of us in he sanii woods v started them It war as fine a chase as I ever had and a hard run When we Jiianl that wellknown bark come on come on w were iiot long getting to the tree K 15 lookeu up in the tree and said There he is and there i another one with him So he said he Avould shoo Uitli at one shot While he was getting in lint to shoot he told me there were three I was under Hits tree with the dogs so I came out and looked up and sure enough there were three just as high as they could climb I went and caught Duke ant held him on one side for Jack would stay on thf other HO when he shot if one jumped we woult have a chance as all coon hunters know that if n shot coon hits the ground he can jump and make his getaway while the dogs are fighting the shot one I was ready so I told E B to let drive and he said Look out and by that time out he fell lx th dogs on him I got them off and bagged oon No 1 got the dogs ready and said he was lodged so we didnt want to leave no coon He fired five times and no coon so I said Let the other one have it He shot and down he came I let the dogs have a shake at him then bagged oon No 2 He fired again at the other one but he didnt move I loosed the dogs and went over to whore he was and looked up and we both said his was lodged and we didnt want to leave a dead wion in the tree so I said that I would go up now I am not good on climbing but up I went Now that coon was dead He had a limb caught behinc his forelegs and was on a balance I threw him out but the dogs knew he was dead and didnt hurt tins hide I came down and bagged coon No 3 This was one exciting time for coon are scarce htrc These coons stayed together all the time that tlie doys were running them Now I hear somt of you say the coon whipped the dogs and mado Ids getaway I dont Hay there is no such coon nit I would like to see tlie coon that could wait off from Jack and Duke for they are stayers all around on track and tree and there with that killing stunt Now brother hunters some of you havi just such dogs and you know what I mean by A No 1 not that we have tlie best dogs for there are others just as good
