At the annual meeting of the Jockey Club yesterday Algernon Daingerfield submitted a report compiled bv F. K. Sturgis, chairman of the Jockey Club Breeding Bureau, on the activities of that organization. The report showed that the bureau entered its fourteenth year with twenty-seven -thoroughbred stallions located in the State of Xew York: nine in Marvland; six in Pennsylvania: one in Ohio, and one two-year-old by Cylgad Helium, the property of the bureau, lieing maintained in Kentucky. The report shows that twenty .new tltoroughbred stallions were acquired in 1918, three of which were placed in the State of Xew York, four in Mary-and eleven were donated to the United States government and sent to various breeding remount stations. Two others are being maintained and will be placed at a later date During the past year the stallions were mated to 395 mares, making a total of 7.457 mares that have been bred to Breeding Bureau stallions in the thirteen years of its existence. An interesting report was also presented by F. Ambrose Clark, official inspector on the acceptance of stallions for the various remount stations of the government. This report showed that of 107 thoroughbred stallions inspected, only thirty-nine were accepted, of which thirty-six were donated and three purchased. The government has about 800 mares and, accordingly, the nucleus for a satisfactory breeding industry. The stallions have been placed as follows: At the United States Government Remount Breeding Bureau, Fort Reno- Oklahoma: Ferole. Doctor Boots, Desmonds Day, Kleburne, Gunrock, Ed Luce, Serf Savin, Trial by Jury, Robert Kay, Delman, Ashton, Valais, Marse Henry, Ljickv Dav, Beach Comber, Mohawk II., Capt. Ray and Duke of Ormonde. At Fort Keogh, Montana: Saratoga, Holy, Light Anns, OSuIIivan, Achievement. Meditation, Shan-ballymore, Swing Loose, Meteorite, Defense and De-femlum. At Fort Royal, Virginia: Star Ben, Cock o the Walk, Greek Legend. Danger Rock. Adams Express, Sir Huon, Yankee, Perkeo, Cautain and Ed Roche. Mr. Clarks report concludes with a brief outline of how the work will be carried on. He says: "A remount corps will be established as a permanent branch of the procurement bureau of the general staff. The organization as outlined herein is based on the principle of immediate and effective extension in war time. The function of the remount corps will be to supply the army with horses and mules. This will include the purchase, assembly at remount deiwts, distribution to organizations, administration of depots, receipt anl care of animals turned in for recuperation, disposition of animals, unserviceable or surplus, shipments of remounts by rail or water, breeding to a limited extent and the encouragement of breeding by fanners and stockmen. A remount officers reserve corps should be maintained."
