; : a, GOOD RACING OF RANCHER AND SPRINGSIDE IN WINNING RICH STAKE RACES FOR THEIR. OWNER, GEORGE M. HENDRIE : : The Canadian owner G. M. Hendrie, although engaged in war-time duties, found time to conduct a moderate racing campaign in which his old standby Rancher figured us his principal winner, although for a time lie was out of form. But in the spring he was good enough to make two new track records at Douglas Park and win the Inaugural Handicap and the Independence Day Handicap at the Latonia meeting. His three-year-old Springside won only one race for him, but that race was the one dear to the hearts of all Canadian owners and greatly coveted the Kings Plate. Its value was reduced from previous Hgures, but if nothing" but King Georges fifty guineas had been offered it would probably have been contested anyhow by every one of the thirteen horses which went, to the post. Sweet Alyssum and Exhorter proved useful contributors. Had racing been carried on in Canada it is quite lrobable the stable would have won more importantly. As it was, its record for 1918 was: Horse. Col. and Sex. A. Pedigree. 1st. 2d. 3d. Won.
