- SOME ERRATIC JOCKEYS Bad Track Conditions Bewilder Riders in Seeking Firm Going. , i . All the Races Easily Won Jack Reeves and Lady Longfellow Socre Next to Inside Rail. NEW ORLEANS, La., January 24. Todays racing was of the ordinary variety, the track in its present bad condition being responsible for Jockeys guiding their mounts all over the course, with the result that not a single race of the seven carded for the afternoon had the semblance of lieing truly run. Left to their judgment to work out the best win-to get around the track, the slow thinking riders made continuous and disastrous blunders. Why most of them elected to take the extreme outer ridge of the track was a mystery, when to all intents the footing near the inner rail was just-as firm and the distance much shorter, as shown by the hollow victories scored by Lady Longfellow and Jack Reeves, both of -which took the inner rail route. .. i -. Threatening weather was still the feature here, but this did not prevent another big assemblage lifting on hand to view the sport. There was no particular feature, the entire card being devoid of anything approaching a good class field. Six of the dashes were under claiming conditions and the other was lor maidens.. This dash, over a mile route, served as the medium for an intended conn on R. H. McCarter Potters Tantalus, but he upset himself and nearly some of the other starters, when he deliberately, after the start, kicked at his nearest follower and later eraslied into severaUotlicauantUalmoVtcausgil -a-bad falirIIe""TnffatenedbrIefly, while racing on the backstretch, but ultimately fell out of contention. Newel W. winning from Eddie Tranter, with Clare Rootlie in third place. Phil Chinas colors were carried to victory for the first time during the meeting when his first-time starter. Hidden Ship, a smart-looking miss by Cunard Mnsks and Faces, won from eight other two-year-olds In the initial dash. My Ada landing in second place and Ogden Girl third. Pepper again showed his heels to a fair band that started witli him in the third race and beat Gallant Lad and LadS" Luxury. Jockey Rarrett drew a suspension of two days Thursday for disobedience at the post. At the meeting of stewards of the Business Mens Racing Association A. J. Stallings was elected chairman and Robert Farrell secretary. J. McPherson-. who was roresrnted in the fourth race by Lucky It., claimed Kentucky Roy for ,230. The confidently backed Seafarer took the fourth race in easy style, with the supposed contender Lucky R. running a particularly bad race and landing far back. Jack Reeves made a runaway of the fiftli race, incidentally exploding the theory that the outer part of the track had the firmest going, for he is essentially a rail runner and was kept close to it all the way. Lady Longfellow took the same route as Jack Reeves with success and Lucile P. also saved much ground in the last race and won from Jason. The latter blunted into Words o Wisdom sharply near the end. which enabled him to secure the place and it kept Words o Wisdom out of it. TWO WINNERS. FOR C. ROBINSON. Jockey C. Robinson continues riding in good form and landed two of the afternoons winners. J. Mooney, the local boy, also had a pair of winning mounts to Ids credit for the afternoon. Apprentice jockey W.
