Ross, today made application to the Kentucky State Racing Commission for licenses for 1019. which means that the noted Canadian turfman has definitely planned to have his "black and orange hoops, orange sleeves and cap" carried in the Kentucky Derby and other important stake events to be decided over the tracks in tills state. Trainer Charles H. Hughes came over from Louisville yesterday to spend a few days with bis friend, C. C. Patrick, before going on to New York about Marcli 10. "The Kentucky Derby, entries for which will close next Tuesday, will be quite an open race," said lie. "Most people will say that either Hilly Kelly or Kternal will win, but there are Dunlwyne, Colonel Livingston. St. Bernard, War Mantle. War Pennant and many others that will have to be taken into consideration. Just remember Exterminators victory last year and that of Doncrail a few years back, and steady down to the fact that the unexpected happens in horse racing."
