NEW YORK HORSES GIVEN EASY WORK j Omar I hayyam Credited with the Fastest Mile So Far at Belmont Park NKW YORK N Y April 11 John W Dodd an English boy passed through the city today on his way from Havana to Liverpool sailing on the Lapland leaving April 19 He expects to ride for F J Benson an English owner with a rather ex ¬ tensive stable stableEvery Every horse at the local racks is l eing prepared well within itself Nothing strenuous lias been done in any way The majority of sprinters are being worked threequarters in around 115 and 120 and Omar Khayyam has covered the best mile so far in l4 5 Westy Hogan worked threequarters In 118 jesterday while George Starr another of the McNaughton string was galh i ed threequarters in 122 Regal Lodge has been sent half miles in alwnt fifty seconds and Wyoming which looks as if he would be sent to Havre fle Grace worked threequarters llSjjII in llSjj II K Knanp was at Belmont Park recently and saw the Karrick string out He was much im ¬ pressed witli his filly Elfin Queen which has grown wonderfully in weight She is not being pressed in work and may not be raced Iwfore July If looks indicate anything Elfin Queen is what horse ¬ men describe as a picture All Karricks three yearolds are confined to threequarters work at present being worked in about 121 Dunboyne Merry Princess and Polka Dot the latter a good looking maiden do useful miles when called upon in 153 or thereabouts thereaboutsMajor Major R L Gerrys stable In charge of Rody Patterson will leave for Maryland next week in ¬ cluding Balustrade Delaware and eleven twoyear olds In the latter class is Feodor a brother to Uodge for which Major Gerry paid lr 000 He is a good type of horse and a probable topnotcher
