HOW EPSOM DERBY DATE IS FIXED A citizen of Chicago who delves into the obscure sidelines of racing anil finds many interesting things to consider sends the following concerning the date of running the worldfamous Blue Riband of the Turf TurfThere There is something I have never seen mentioned in any publication in this country or for that matter in Great Britain either A matter of in ¬ terest and at the same time a curiosity and that is the date of the Epsom Derby DerbyMost Most will think it is made the same as that of the Kentucky Derby by a racing commission or the Jockey Club ClubBut But it is a fixed and certain date and anyone caring to know on the first day of January in any year when the Derby of that year will be run has only to have a Church Calendar and the phases of the moon for the year to find out It is always nin on Wednesday and always on the third Wednes ¬ day following the first full moon after Easter This year it is to be run June 4 4Easter Easter this year comes on April 20 The first full moon afterward comes Wednesday May 14 and the third Wednesday after that is June 4 The full moon might have been on any date previous to that of May 14 Including May 8 with the same result
