FISHING AND HUNTING NOTES A pike of thirty-two pounds was found dead with a flight of hooks in its throat in a lake near Stony Stratford, Bucks, England. In the State of Virginia rabbits, quail, grouse and wild turkeys may be hunted from November 1 to February 1, and doves from September 1 to December 15. Samuel Stiefel of Los Angeles, Cal., recently captured a jewfish weighing 245 pounds while fishing off Balboa. It required two hours to land the mammoth fish. Of the 2S7 violations of the game and fish laws of New York State reported to the state conservation commission and disposed of during the month of June, 2G7 convictions were secured. C. A. Spencer of New York, while fishing at Butterfield Like, Redwood, N. Y., near the Cana-dian boundary line, hooked a fourteen-pound landlocked salmon that required three-quarters of an. hour to land. In Tennessee the only upland game that can legally be hunted in that state are squirrels, quails, doves aud wild turkeys. The open season for squirrel is from June 2 to December 31, and on quail and turkey from November 1G to December 31, and on doves from September 1 to December 15.
