COL. TAYLORS FINE RACE Wins Sensational Victory in Rich Autumn Handicap at Latonia. Big Crowd Sees Interesting Racing John 0. Qualifies for Championship Stakes. LATONIA, Kj. September 27. Tlie Autnmn Handicap, worth .Sfi.300 net, contested by the host in these parts, resulted in :i spirited finish, with the three-year-old Col. Taylor, American Ace and Major Parke fighting it out and terminating the race in the above order. Col. Taylor winning by a scant head from American Ace. Col. Taylor and American Ace had dominated the running practically from the start and fought it out stubbornly through the last eighth. The twelve pounds weight advantage that Col. Taylor had over his rival, coupled with a masterly ride that 8. Boyle gave him. being the determining factor in his victory. Major Parke took third place as a result of the immense amount of ground he succeeded in saving on the stretch turn and Top Coats swerving out near the end. Jack Hnre Jr., High Cost and the Ogden Stables pair, War Cod and Looking Up. were never serious factors, though held in high esteem. Highly exciting sport was again viewed this afternoon, but, like former days during the meeting, surprises were numerous and the overthrow of favorites frequent. Weather and track conditions could not bo improved on and it helped materially in bringing out the immense throng that witnessed the sport. A pronounced form reversal was seen during the afternoon with Counterbalance the offender. In his start yesterday he lacked much speed, and finished farhack. . Sirocco was the lirst. offending choice, followed in quick succession by Diana, Alhena, Pastoureau, Jack Hare Jr. and Clintonvllle. Mazola paid her supporters the longest odds of the afternoon. Incidentally her victory was the most sensational of all during the afternoon, for she came with :i lightning-like rush to get up in tlie last stride. Jockeys Robinson and Lunsford carried off the riding honors with a iair of victories each. The Iatoitia management is waging war on hand-bookmakers who are accepting bets on the grounds.
