TREMENDOUS CROWD AT AQUEDUCT S. C. Hildreth Entry, lucullite and Corn Tassel, Win Edgemere Handicap, Closing Day Feature. NEW YORK, X. Y., September 27. A tremendous Saturday crowd was on hand at Aqueduct today, due partly to the delightful weather that prevailed. The Kdgemere Handicap, feature of the closing day, worth 2,725 net, was completely dominated by tlie Hildreth entry, Lucullite and Corn Tassel, the latter a recent acquisition from the U. T. Wilson stable. They finished as named, with Xutcraeker, tho only other starter, third. Previous to the race S. C. Hildreth had declared to win with Lucullite. The entry was quoted at prohibitive odds, the 1 to 20 being the shortest odds offered during the racing this year. Barklie was best in the Queensboro Steeplechase Handicap, although Decisive led until at the last hurdle and withstood many challenges during the running. At the end, however, Barklie wore him down. Bight Angle, confidently supported, won the first race from Trophy and Jyntee. Indiscretion was a surprise in the third when she defeated Cock o the Roost, thereby leaving the maiden class. Tenons Bon was a popular winner of the fifth race, he coming from behind the early pacemaker, Panaman. to win easily. Edward W. Cole will depart for Laurel Monday, where he will officiate as one of the placing judges. A portion of the stable of S. C. Hildreth will be shipped to Laurel Monday The racing scene shifts to Jamaica Monday, when the Metropolitan Jockey Clubs autumn meeting of twelve days begins. A contribution has been started here among the jockeys to send a floral offering for the funeral of Phil Musgrave, who was killed at Havre de Grace yesterday. It is not generally known that tlie Aqueduct track is about .seventy feet longer than a mile and a quarter. The extra distance is allowed for in all races at a mile and five-eighths. D. McDaniel has engaged C. Borel to ride tlie horses he will take to "Cuba next winter. Borel can ride at 110 pounds. William McDaniel has arranged to ship his horses to Cuba at tiie close of the Havre de Grace meeting. Fred Rehberger, who has been steadily employed as secretary at several -of- the localtvackfwsincc last April, will? close his season today and take a well earned vacation for a week or two. James Fitzsimmons will ship to Laurel as soon as ho cmi get cars to take his stable of seventeen. George Walls will do much of, his riding while in Maryland.
