MINTO II., OF ENGLISH LINEAGE, A FAIR RACER By I-X1LE Minto II. has been showing good form on the Kentucky courses this autumn. Of course he beat Ormesdale and Rifle over a mile, burdened with 120 pounds; he experienced none the best of the luck when John 0. took his measure in the running of the Pershing Handicap. Before this, Julv 2 at Anue-duct, Minto II. beat the three-year-old Thunderclap, both carrying level weight, 105 pounds, Be Frank 119 pounds, also taking part in this race. This performance on the part of Minto II will bear close inspection, for I cannot think those in charge of Thunderclap had as yet come to realize what sort of a colt they were entertaining, owe which subsequent events prove to be not so far behind Sir Barton, and any horse, no matter the weights, found capable of beating Thunderclap is worthy of consideration. Minto II.s sire, Sundridge. is best known as a sprinter, and with the nossible exception of Sunstar, as the sire of sprinters. Bay Ronald, however, sire of Minto II s dam Miss Ronald, won the City and Suburban, Lowther and Limekiln Stakes, and sired such celebrities as Macdonald, Dark Ronald and Bayardo. Sesara. dam of Miss Ronald, won the French One Thousand and is a daughter of the Derby and St. Legcr winner, Donovan, mid the next dam, Seraphine is a trench-bred daughter of the Grand Prix winner, Bruce, son of the Herod horse. See Saw and this a French branch, and a most productive one, too, of the No. 5 family. Of course, Minto II.s stamina has largely to be taken on trust. There is room for hope, however, in that much staying blood is brought into the pedigree by Avay of Hampton, Galliard, Donovan, Bruce and Trocadero.
