MERMANS LONG RANGE PURCHASE The story of the purchase of the famous Merman by L.anKtry is interesting and is told in William Allisons recent book, "My Kingdom for a Horse " Mr. Allison had just received a cable from Australia, which read: "Merman won Williamstown Cup. Best horse in Australia to win long distance handicap in England. Legs like steel, ,000," when ; Mrs. Langtry came in the office, wanted to buy a winner, and the cable was shown to her. She took the risk and how Merman won the Cesarewitch the same year is a matter of history.
