, COMMANDER J. K. L. ROSS FAR IN THE LEAD OF THE THIRTY PRINCIPAL MONEY WINNING OWNERS OF THE PRESENT YEAR Last j-ear Commander J. K. L. Ross headed the list of American winning owners with a stable total in money won by his horses of .9,179. This year lie holds the same exalted position with the huge aggregate of 04,272 already to. the credit of his powerful stable, with a prospect of adding materially to. this sum before his horses are sent into winter quarters. Since 19IIS no other American stable has won as much. The champion three-year-old Sir Rarton was the principal contributor to this great sum, but he had other stars of high class ably assisting. Subsequent to the death- of James R. Keene. Samuel C. Hildrcth headed the winning list for three consecutive years, but neither in 1909, 1910 or 1911 did his horses win so great an aggregate as this year, when he is only second. Under the circumstances the-08,300 piled up for him by Mad Hatter, Purchase, Lucullite and the other brilliant racers in his stable constitutes a remarkable record. II. P. Whitney is third and has had a good year in comparison with 191S, but nothing to compare with the Glen Riddle Farm, which, from a modest ,357 in 1918, advanced to the fat total of ,970 in 1919, the reason being the magnificent two-year-old Man o War. There is gratified pride and pelf in the" possession of such a grand specimen of the thoroughbred, but the first-named emotion weighs more heavily, with Man o Wars owner than the gains due to his superb speed. The stable accounts of cur thirty leading owners to date are a reflection of the abundant money to be won this year, and are as follows: Won in Leading Winner Won in Leading Winner 1918.
