JEFFERSON PARK TRACK FAST Warm Weather and a Taking Card Attract Big Attendance. Lively Defeats Breeze in a Rousing Finish for the Main Race of the Day. 1 i NEW ORLEANS. La.. December 4. Under the genial Influence of warm sunshine the Jefferson Iark track is rapidly approaching its bpst possible condition and was nearly as fast as it can be today. Livelys mile in 1:40 in the main race of the afternoon affording convincing proof of the fact. Under such favorable conditions the attendance was about .the best of the meeting. Jood racing throughout rewarded the attendance and speculntiiin was heavy. As a majority of favorites won the layers suffered and backers were jubilant. The big race of the day was the fifth, a dasli of a mile, with five starters, flcavy backing developed for four of them, and post time found Enmity slightly the favorite, with Lively tliM see-ond choice and Dairyman the outsider. Lively dashed into the lead soon after the start, and making the pace fast won all the way. hut had to do his best atthe end to defeat Breeze by the scanty margin of a nose, with Panama 11 a good third, a length before the favorite. Ilumma was a heavily backed favorite for the fourth race and made good, but in an exciting finish in which he was first by only a nose, with Ermi-tana. Speedster. High Note, Korfhage, Al Pierce and Sarasota following iii order with no. more than a head .separating the six. It was tho most hotly contested nice" of" tlie meeting and provocative -of great applause. The mile and an eighth race that brought to. a close the days sport furnished a decided surprise-in the defeat of the red hot favorite Mountain Rose II. and the victory of Tie Pin. Support was almost evenly divided between Billie B. and Mumbo Jumbo in the third race, and the two put up a hot finish for first money. Mumbo Jumbo showed the most early speed and led to the last eighth, where Billie B.. overtook him. From there oh a bitter struggle ensued, and the result was in doubt to the last few strides, when Billie B. managed to get his head in front and get the judges eyes. Bert Mooney and Buxton rode splendidly and were the recipients of much, applause. A. L. Kirbys War Garden won his second victory of the meeting, easily proving best of those that opposed hiln in the- oiening dash. He was the decided choice among the speculatively inclined and rewarded his backers by running a capital race, racing into the lead in the first quarter and holding sway to the end. . The second race was marred by a mishap to Great Hawk, which appeared to have been crowded to a fall immediately after the start. Pueblo, well ridden by Butwcll, was returned the winner In the easiest fashion imaginable. He quickly opened a big lead and held it to the end. Viva Cuba was second and Guncion third. .
