MORE FAST TIME AT JEFFERSON PARK I Breeze Makes a New Track Record in Defeating Ballet Dancer II. in the Feature Race. NEW ORLEANS, La., December 17. Racing at Jefferson Park today was conducted under the same agreeable conditions that have pleased patrons of the track for several days past. The racing was spirited and well contested throughout. The fact that the first mile of the fifth nice was run in 1:39 was significant of the vast improvement that has been wrought in the going here, as compared with that of last winter and spring. In fact, Jefferson Park is now as fast, if not faster, than the Fair Grounds track. The race referred to was tlie chief one of I lie afternoon, ,u dash of a mile and seventy yards, with four starters. At the opening of operations Breeze and Ballet Dancer II. were equal favorites at 9 to 5. but when the smoke cleared away at. post time Breeze was at 7 to 5. while Ballet Dancer 11. had receded to to 1 and had been passed in the quotations by Sun -God. which dosed at 111 to 5. Breeze raced into the lead on the hackstrcteh and kepiug it without trouble won by a length and a half in 1:44, a nl-w track record. Ballet Dancer II. finished gamely and outstayed Sim God by a length for second money. Such horses as J. W. McClelland has hero are evidently in good form. Today he won the opener with his well h.ii-kcd Rainbow Girl, making a victory for each of the horses he has raced here. Jhe outsiders Hopover and Tom Brooks finished second and third respectively. Old Pollux ran well in the fourth race, and equaling tlie track record for three-quarters just gof up in .time to record a nose victory, over the other veteran. A. N. Akin. Port Light was a hot favorite here, but third was his portion after leading nearly all the way. Thursday Nigliter has raced consistently here, something, which cannot be said for a good many presumably better racers. He was made a good favorite for the fifth race and under a good ride by- Butwell easily held it safe all the way, with Capital City bringing up second and Tanlac third. Miss Filley and Capitania, both at long prices, shocked Prince Henrys confident backers in the last. race, by finiKlilic: first and second while relegating him to third place. He is a fast old horse but has bad legs and is not to be relied upon. Entries for the New Years Handicap, at a mile and a sixteenth, to be run at the Fair Grounds, aiid to which the Business Mens Racing Association is adding ,000, will close December 25. -The conditions call for three-year-olds and over, and tlie entrance fee is 0. with 5 additional to start. This marks the first of the four races to be run at the Fair Grounds having an added value of 85.000. Tlie others will likewise Ik? for three-year-olds and over and will le at the respective distances of a mile and an eighth, a mile and a quarter and two miles. The latter will be known as tlie Martin Behrmanu Handicap. E. R. Bradley, master of Idle Hour Stud in Kentucky, was an arrival today and will remain for some time liefore going to lalin Beach, Fla., for the remainder of the winter. Jockey Buxton had a narrow escape from injury in the fourth race Tuesday when his mount, .Mather, nearly went down as a result of Chief bumping into him. The mishap was unavoidable ami the stewards took no action in the matter. Miller Henderson, who in partnership with D. Ister is the owner of the Ogden Stable, is an arrival from Louisville, Ky. He brought down Wur God and Madge F., two consistent .winners on the Blue Grass circuit. War God won the Lntoniu Autumn Inaugural Handicap, worth .1919.sh,040 net, last SeptenilK-r. and he will be pointed for the rich long-distance stakes to be run at the Fair Grounds.
