HAVANA FEATURE TO DIFFERENT EYES Defeats a Good Band of Sprinters in Santa Fe Han-, dicap Big Crowd Present. HAVANA, Cuba. December 20. Clias. A. Stone-hams The Manager colt. Different Eyes beat a band of good sprinters in the Santa Fe Handicap at Oriental Park this afternoon when he rushed into the front after the first sixteenth and leading tlte rest of the distance won by a length from Cromwell. The latter made a game effort going through the home stretch, but despite lountains effort he was unable to improve his position in the last sixteenth. Another largo crowd turned out. The attendance equaled last Saturdays, when a record crowd for a week day was established. Some of the fin -isnes this afternoon were extremely close, especially so in the first and sixth races. In the opener Red came from behind and just managed to get up in the closing strides to beat out Pomerene by the shortest of margins. An accident in tiie third race was caused by C. Howard on Dimitri, who crowded Driffield directly after the start, causing tin? latter to stumble and fall. Jockey Lux, who had the mount on Driffield, sustained a brouen collarbone. The stewards issued a ruling after tin? race, which brought a five days suspension to C. Howard for rough riding. Cannody put up a desperate finish on Lucky Pearl in the sixth race when he hooked up with Crump on Great Gull at the eighth imst. In a grueling drive Lucky Pearl outlasted Great Gull. Carmody. also rode the winner of the second nice, Planta-rede, which beat Tranby three parts of a length in a driving finish. Penalver. another apprentice, rode, two winners. Red and Riverside. II. Baldwin. the owner of Lucky Pearl, claimed Grace for 50.
