G. A. COCHRAN STRING FOR NEXT YEAR NEW YORK. N. Y., December 24. Trainer James Evans will bring a string of twelve to the races for G. A. Cochran next year, and they are being wintered at Aiken, S. C. where some seasons back William Midgeley, then training for Mr. Cochran, met witli a most satisfying success in conditioning the horses. There is a training track there when? speed tests are possible, and horses thrive during the cold months in the mild climate. Of the twelve that are at Aiken nine are coming two-year-olds, while the older ones are Normandie, the three-year-old son of Star Shoot and Mamie Worth, and the two two-year-olds Ardito, a chestnut son of His Majesty, and Mamie Worth, . and Bersagliere. a bay or brown son of His Majesty and Veil. Eight of the yearlings are by His Majesty and the other is a chestnut colt by Fits Herbert Lady K. The progeny of His Majesty are colts, the dams of which are Pretty Maiden, Quair. Marie Odile and Veil, and .the fillies dams are Early Rose, Royal Martyr," Pleione and Cut Glass. All of these youngsters have beea tried b trainer Evans and he has found that he has some "real runners" in the band, while others are sure to develop. In any event they will have every advantage of a careful preparation at Aiken during the cold months, and it is probable the string will be represented in the early racing of next year. Horses that are conditioned at a southern course have a decided advantage in early races over those that go into winter quarters farther north, and it was after a winter at Aiken that Midgeley met witli his best successes while he trained the Cochran string. In addition to the yearlings already mentioned there are ten shapely weanlings at Runnymede. Of these eight are by His Majesty and the other two are a filly by Broomstick Early Rose nnd a colt bv Bryn Mawr Coronis. The His Majesty string are colts, the dams of which are Burlesque. Madeira and Marie Odile. with fillies from Royal Martyr, Adriana, Cut Glass, Pleione and Golden Drop. , . . ... Ten of the Runnymede mares chosen from the following matrons will be bred in Kentucky: Adrian; Golden Drop, Early Rose, Pleione, Royal Martyr, Cut Glass, Burlesque, Madeira, Pretty Maiden, Quair. Marie Odile, Coronis, Livonia, Little Letty arid Fairy Wand.
