NOTED OLD TURFMAN PASSES AWAY I NEW ORLEANS, La., December 24. It was learned here today that W. A. Baker, who years ago was a familiar figure on the American turf as an owner and trainer and father of the turfmen. G rover and Hundley Baker, died Tuesday at his home in St. Louis. His death made the fourili in Ids family in the past eighteen months, his wife liviiig died last summer nnd his two sons In 1918: The elder Baker owned nnd trained quite u. few good horses and his sons took up the business after 1 him. The entire family was not long in being i claimed by death, Grover dying first, then Hundley a few months afterward. It is said that grief over the deaths of. the two boys hastened the end of the mother, and the same is possibly true of the father.
