I . ■ • NECROLOGY OF THE TURF IN 1919 Andrew Miller, Joseph E. Seagram and Barney Schreiber Among Most Prominent Who Died. Among those called by death in 1919 were men wlio played leading parts in the arena of the turf. None was of more prominence than Barnes Schreiber. to whom M breeder American racing owes sac*. noble race horses as Jack Atkin. Nealon, Sager. litis and others of notable nciiieemeuts. Robert A. Bwigert was another who in his dajs had bulked largely as breeder and owner. Jacob J. Marklein anil Joseph W. Pugh were widely known in racing but a few years back. Joseph E. Seagram was long Canadas leading owner and breeder and a man of great wealth and influence in the Uirf affairs of our neighbors across the northern border. Walter Hedges was a familiar figure on Chicago tracks, when his good horse Gregor K. was a popular favorite and winner of many races. W. , A. Baker was but a year later in following his two sons. Graver C Baker and W. Hundley Baker, into the eternal silence. Garrett I. Wilson was a leader iu many affairs at Lexington, and the venerable Amos McCampbell was high up among western turfmen twenty-five years ago. Andrew Miller, who died suddenly on the last day of the year, was a turfman and publisher and owner of the famous hois" Roamei, bceidea being a steward of the Jockey Club. Of the jockeys who died Frank Robinson was the most noted and twice leader in the American jockey Ust— In 1910 and 191S. Still yonng, his promise was great and his death truly d plorod. Next to him in skill was Philip Musgrave, an :»■■ complisbed rider when at his best. Of the trainers none had achieved the highest rank in their profession, but "Billy" Appleby was skillful and deservedly beloved of his associates in California. In England W. A. Cox. who raced for years so "Mr. Fairie." was one unto whom had fallen the highest honors of the turf through his great horses Gay Crusader. Lemborg and Bayardo. J. W. Larnaoli and Baron Schiekler were of great note in English and French racing, and H. M. Dotting was tiie most widely known official in England as clerk of the course at Bosom. Others prominent in their lines were the turf writers Charles K. Van Loan end James R. Jeffery. former owner and trainer Charles Boyle. Sr.. and Harry V.
