HOW THINGS STAND IN MARYLAND HALTIMORK Md March 22 The Hurke racing commission bill today was passed to its third read ¬ ing by the Houso of Delegates with amendments limiting the number of racing days in the state to 100 instead of 112 as at present preventing tint starting of any more tracks other than those now operating and providing that all fees and taxes paid except 3000 which under the charter of Pimlico goes to Haltimoro County be paid intd the state treasury The bill taxes each track of the four In Maryland 0 a day for each day of racing though an effort was made to raise this to 10000 a day dayThe The hill being oil its third reading cannot be again amended There is but one chance in many thousands that it will fail of passage in the house because of tin feeling of a majority of tiie delegates that it would be a legislative mistake for the gen ¬ eral assembly to adjoirn without passing some measure regulating racing racingAfter After being passed by the house the bill must go to tin senate where its passage seems assured though tiiere is talk in that body of amending it by adding a section requiring a referendum on racing If this is done the amended bill would have to come hack to the house and the chances are the amend ¬ ment would be stricken off or the bill killed in toto
