THREE STRAIGHT VICTORIES Eddie Rickenbacher Continues His Winning Way at Fort Erie. Runs Remarkably Fast Race to Account for the Buffalo Courier Handicap. FORT ERIE. Ontario. August 13. Commander J. K. L. Ross big sprinter Lion dOr went down to defeat at Fort Erie this afternoon when lie was beaten by the three-year-olds Eddie Rickenbacher in the Buffalo Courier Handicap, a dash of three-quarters, which brought out the best band of sprinters that have gone to the post in Canada this summer. Eddie Rickenbacher won in runaway fashion. He set a remarkable pace all the way and passed the winning mark a length and a half in front of Marjcrie Hyncs. Lion dOr was third, beaten four lengths for" second place. Carman-dale ran well to the turn out of the back stretch, where he tore for the outside fence and it took all that OBrien could do to straighten him out. This put him out of the running. Todays victory is the third successive one that Eddie Rickenbacher has scored since passing into the hands of W. A. Burttschell, who is training him for J. R. Skinker, and in his present form he seems unbeatable by anything racing on this circuit at anything like equal weights. The attendance keeps up in a remarkable manner and another large crowd turned out to witness the sport. The maiden jockey race .was won by Sandy H., which beat lliuuma :by a head in a driving finish. Both Aron and Rcmmert, who rode the first two horses, put up excellent rides for beginners. This "was Remmerts first mount. The lad is under contract to J. B. Dunn, who picked him up at Aqueduct last spring. Roy Gordon has taken over jockey G. Walls book and will make his engagements in the future. Harry Gfddings plater Wraite and jockey K. Parrington had a narrow, escape from injury tills morning. W.raite was being worked while the horses were on the track and Parrington was unable to keep him straight and he jumped inside the liar-row and out of it and in some remarkable manner escaped injury. The Hon. S. F. Tolmie, Minister of Agriculture, was a visitor at Fort Erie this afternoon. He made a thorough inspection of the plant, accompanied by Mr. S. Gilmartin, who is in charge of the niutuel department, arid was well pleased with the manner in which that department was conducted. It is understood that the Hon. Tolmie will make a tour of inspection of every race course in Ontario and Quebec. Pat Knebelkamp, who is spending the month of August in Canada, contemplates adding a couple of useful horses to his string which will be shipped from Saratoga, to Kentucky. lie will choose horses that favor racing over a long distance of ground. Ov R. Andersons useful liorse Stevenson pulled up lame in his race yesterday and will be on the shelf for a couple of weeks. The sixth race on the original program -for tomorrow was declared off and a race "at one mile substituted. James T. Looney. accompanied by his son B. J. Looncy. stopped off in Buffalo on their trip from Lexington to Saratoga and took in the races at Fort Erie this afternoon. Jockey Richcreek suffered a smashed toe while Fletcher broke his collar bone as "a result of the mixup at the finish In the second race yesterday when Musket and Pokey B. fell fifty yards from the finishing mark. Johnny Schorr left for Saratoga this morning with The, Porter and. The Baggage. ... The condition book for "tlie" Ottawa meeting" reached here this morning and were distributed among the horsemen by Joseph McLennan. The purses have been increased ,000 over those of the spring meeting. The club, in conjunction with the Montreal Jockey Club and the Ontario Jockey Club, is making an extra effort to attract owners to ship their steeplechase horses to Ottawa and there will be a jumping race every day of the program. James Milton lias received an offer for the brood mare Golden Ruby and will probably dispose of her. She lias a filly foal at her side by Great Britain and was bred back to the sou of The Commoner again last spring.
