HAVANAS STAKE PROGRAM n iLT un Cuban Track Offers Twenty-One Richly Endowed Races. "Total Added Money Is Close to 00,000, Cuban Government Donating 5,000. Frank .T. Bruen, general manager of the Havana race track, has announced the full list of stakes to be decided during the coming winter season of racing at the Cuban track. A total of twenty-one stakes are offered, which is eight more than last year. The total added money to the twenty-one stnke events will amount to close to 00,000. as against last years total of 0,000. This substantial increase will place Havann in the forefront of winter racing enterprises. Exactly one-quarter of the ndded money to the stakes is donated by the Cuban government. The government has endowed the Grand Prize of Cnba Handicap to. the extent of 5,000 added money, and also guarantees the 0,000 added to the Cuba Produce Stakes, the latter being a race for Cuban-bred two-year-olds of, 1921. Both of these stakes are new and were instituted by The Jockey Club at the suggestion of the Cuban government in order that the latter might be given an opportunity to lend its support to racing on the island in some substantial manner and atthe same time make known its interest in fostering and encouraging the breeding of thoroughbreds on the island. Manager Bruen. is also able to announce an increase in the value of overnight purses. The minimum -.purse will be S700, as against purses-of. last year. The daily program will also embrace purses ranging from 00 to ,200. The daily average money distribution will range from ,500 to ,800. The new stakes other than the two already mentioned are: The Thanksgiving Inaugural, American Club Handicap, Rotary Club Handicap, Union Club Handicap, Cuba Mile Championshio, for three-year-olds, and the Cuba Mile Championship Handicap, for two-year-olds. The Grand Prize of Cuba and the Cuban Derby, both with 5,000 added, are the richest of the stakes. The value of the Derby has been increased by ,000.
