Samuel Ross of Washington furnished the winner of the Capital Handicap, the ,000 added attraction of todays program at Laurel Park, in a horse of his own hrfpjling. the six-year-old Crank. J. K. L. Ross Motor Cop, carrying the, top weight, 125 pounds, was second after setting the pace throughout, but his effort to dispuse of Panoply told at the end and he hud no change with the winner, barely saving second from the fast-fiuishiiig Mock Orange. The Whitney entry was a strong favorite for the race and while Panoply followed the pacemaker closely to the last eighth she tired and failed badly right at the end. Another large crowd was present and saw some Interesting and spirited racing. Favorites as a rule did not fare well, although several of the winners were well supported. A. Swenke claimed Explosive from Ral Parr yesterday for ,910. T. Doyle took First Pullet from 0. R. Daly for ,710 and J. Randolph dropped ,810 in the box for W. B. Marshalls Cobalt Lass. L. McAtee is an arrival from Kentucky. The horses of -Mrs. F. Ambrose Clark,. R. MeKel-sey and R. II. Pangle arrived from Canada this morning. Mr. Pangle also put in his appearance. Br1. F. W. Ashe is doing missionary work here in the Interest of the stake events to be run at Havana next winter. He is also makiug arrangements for horsemen desiring to ship to the island.
